Slabtown Marketplace in northwest Portland spans two blocks with a renovated commercial warehouse and a five-over-one mixed use development with an integrated pedestrian accessway and parking area between the buildings. The design includes custom wood benches, perforated weathered steel screens, concrete plank paving, and special concrete pavement treatments which hearken back to the industrial roots of the neighborhood.
At the middle of the accessway, seating areas beneath a timber-framed canopy face a 20-foot tall green wall with steel panels. In the mixed-use development, a large second floor roof garden with small private patios and raised weathered steel planters looks out over a green roof canopy towards the accessway and greenwall.
