38 Davis

Portland, Oregon

Portland’s Old Town and Chinatown has a history of back alleys and narrow passageways that wind through this historical District. At 38 Davis, the new mixed-use office and residential building creates a narrow passageway that combines historical references with a modern sustainable ethic. Salvaged cobblestones line the planted walkways along with timber benches, strung catenary lights and two large ornamental gates announce each entry. Within the alley, a steel grate pedestrian bridge spans over a large stormwater facility filled with ferns and flowering iris that collects water from the roof.
