Lango Hansen partnered with Bora Architects to design the new campus for De La Salle North Catholic High School, a private college preparatory school for underserved students in Northeast Portland. The project is composed of a renovated K-8 school building attached to St. Charles Parish and a new addition that houses a gymnasium and learning commons, are centered around an enclosed courtyard space that serves as the heart of the campus. Lango Hansen’s design for the courtyard provides large, flexible outdoor gathering spaces for students, while deftly bridging the 30-inch grade change between the old and new wings with built-in seating and lush planting areas. The project includes a new vehicular and pedestrian entry from NE Killingsworth St. that leads to the welcoming entry plaza, stair, and seating areas at the front doors to the school, and native and drought-tolerant planting in the parking areas and around the perimeter of the building.
